Telecom provider to
process up to 1.5 million records per day utilizing Microsoft technology, CoreTech
integration expertise
Philadelphia, PA, Monday, November 16,
1998 CoreTech Consulting Group, Inc., a Microsoft Certified Solution
Provider working with Fortune 2000 companies, announced today the implementation of a SQL Server 7.0-based data mart solution at
Comcast Cellular. The solution represents an upgrade from SQL Server 6.5 and will enable
Comcast Cellular, one of the Delaware Valleys largest providers of wireless and
cellular telecommunications services, to better understand and track the needs of its
customers.
"The move to SQL Server 7.0 gives us the enhanced system performance, scalability,
scheduling capability and manageability we need to keep pace with our increasingly
competitive marketplace," said Dan Van Ostenbridge, Comcast Cellular Vice President
of Information Systems. "It allows more people to access better information, helping
them make better business decisions."
The CoreTech-designed solution will enable up to 500 Comcast workers to query the database
for answers at the same time, double the previous maximum. In addition, SQL Server 7.0
will enable Comcast Cellular to triple the number of records it processes every day to two
40-gigabyte data marts. Those data marts currently receive 500,000 wholesale call records
per day. The daily feed will be expanded over the next 12 months to include retail
information, for a total of as many as 1.5 million records per day.
"CoreTech has spent years providing quality services and support to customers
implementing solutions based on Microsoft technologies," said Bryan Watson, general
manager, partner and corporate accounts at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased to see
CoreTech apply its expertise at Comcast Cellular, pioneering services that protect and
extend its customers technology investments."
"We worked with Comcast on this solution from the very beginning to ensure the end
result was advantageous for everyone involved," said Ed Beaumont, Chief Executive
Officer at CoreTech. "Its a core value of our company to work with corporate
customers and assist them in utilizing new technologies - such as SQL Server 7.0 - to
become more productive and realize the greatest return on their investment."
